My California tour has been such a blast so far, from an incredible live-recorded session at Jackson Productions in Pasadena to a lovely stay-cation in my gold country hometown. I am really looking forward to my upcoming show at Don Quixotes on Monday the 22nd in Felton, which will be preceded by a LIVE performance on KPIG radio, a local Santa Cruz County station featuring Country and Folk music. Tune in on your radio at 107.5 or online around 10am to catch me live with John Sandidge!
I am very honored to have been invited to perform for the upcoming, Lughnasadh Feast: A Benefit for the Women of the Dwelling Place of New York and Tribute to the Women of 1916. Taking place August 1st, at 7pm at the Ripley Grier Studios, 520 8th Ave. NYC, 16th floor. Recommended $20 donation at the door.
This event touches on many things very close to my heart. As my current research is on the role and experience of women in Irish music it is my honor to be a representative for the musical community on this occasion, which seeks to uplift women in history and our direct community.
This event seeks to highlight the role and experience of women in the 1916 Easter Rising. History has often ignored the subjugated individuals of a society, including women. Up until recent endeavors, very little was known of the direct role of women in the 1916 Easter Rising and there is still much work to be done to reveal their complete story. This event celebrates their activity and integral offerings in the pursuits leading up to the rising itself. Present to portray these experiences will be playwright, actress and dear friend, Honor Molloy, as well as poet John Brennan, and myself, offering a brand new song written specially for this event!
In addition to the artistic and historical offerings of the evening all proceeds will be donated in benefit to the women of The Dwelling Place of New York, a transitional residence for homeless women in our city. Displacement is a far bigger issue in our world than many of us recognize, and is made even more challenging and dangerous for women, as almost invisible members of society when they have no home. I am very proud to be offering and dedicating my performance in their name for this event, to raise awareness and bring light to their need.
I hope to see many of my Manhattan and greater New York City area, folk there.
I spent years watching all my favorite bands from the audience at Don Quixote’s International Music Hall in Felton, California during my time as an undergraduate at University California Santa Cruz; from the first show I saw there of Mick Moloney and Athena Tergis, on to my wild obsession of Solas and Old Blind Dogs, and of course my favorite locals, Molly’s Revenge. I’ve seen every band and musician I love and admire in this space… and now I am overwhelmingly excited to say it’s my turn to share my music with all of you from the stage. 🙂 I really look forward to seeing my Santa Cruz family, friends and fans there. I know its a Monday night but I promise to make it worth your while!

Looking forward to tonight, joining the Irish American Writers and Artists, for their First Thursdays Salon at Bar Thalia (7pm). These events are so fun and I am doubly excited to be part of their second Salon of July in partnership with the Italian American Writers Association for the Irish-Italian night Salon on July 19th for a night of Irish and Italian music, poetry, monologues and fun. Both promise to great events and hope to see my New York friends and fans there tonight and in a couple of weeks 🙂
So, as some of you know I’ve been working on putting together a California tour for August 🙂 I am happy to announce we have our first official confirmation for a House Concert at a beautiful home in Berkeley, California on August 23rd, starting at 7:30pm. This concert is donation based admission (suggested $15) and comes with offerings of wine and hors d’oeuvres at intermission. The host of the evening has very kindly opened up her gorgeous, early California home to us, so this is a RSVP only event. To get full details for directions, address and make a reservation, please send an email to me at email@example.com
Hope to see all my East Bay friends and fans there!
Busy times for me, working to put together a demo album and raise funds for an upcoming official album. But, I find time to still play out when I can. It’s been a great weekend of music; some busking and a great new session at Hartley’s led by guitarist and actor, Matt Stapleton. I am also looking forward to joining Honor Molloy and the troupe again for a wonderful reading of James Joyce, a great alternative to all the same old Bloomsday drills. “Dealer’s Joyce: An Alternative Bloomsday” smartly arranged by Miss Molloy herself explores all the ignored and wonderful works of Joyce, presented by a wonderful group of NYC local actors, with music from yours truly. It’s going to be a lot of fun, to be sure! Join us at Dixon Place on Thursday, June 9th at 7:30pm!
Well Friends… It’s finally happening! After a decade of re-discovering my voice in a new tradition, I am putting together an album. There are many stages to this process and I am looking forward to the journey. However, it has become apparent to me that I cannot traverse this without help.
The road to releasing an album is a costly one but not impossible. I have already been offered so much support by friends and mentors, that I am confident this project will be a great success. And, it can prosper even more abundantly with your help.
So I am hoping to entice all of you to join me through your support. I have created a special GoFundMe for this project, complete with gifts of gratitude for various donation levels. GoFundMe is a safe site for raising funds, and enable me to use any amount donated, without the all-or-nothing pressure of other funding sites. It also allows me to interact with you as patrons and keep you all up to date on progress and new phases of the journey. Please, take a moment to check it out and consider how you might like to help. 🙂 Many more announcements and updates to come! Find the GoFundMe page here: https://www.gofundme.com/alisarosecompelled
